1. The Garden Project, Hamilton
Porch Light Theatre and Industry in Hamilton have recently launched The Garden Project; BIPOC artists in Hamilton can apply for this opportunity to nurture their artistic work, receive an honorarium to fund their project, and be paired with a mentor in their craft. The recipients can choose the mentor they want to work with. Both mentor and artist are supported financially for their work.
2. The Amy Project, Toronto
The AMY Project (Artists Mentoring Youth) provides professional mentorships, training, and accessible arts programming for non-binary folks and women. These programs are specifically for folks from equity-seeking groups.
3. Emerging Creators Unit, Toronto
Through Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, this emerging artist unit offers creators (up to age 30) the opportunity to work with professionals as they develop their own unique performance piece. The final performance is staged as part of the Queer Pride Festival. Be sure to carefully read criteria in order to make the application deadline.
4. Young Innovators Program, Toronto
Though not a queer program specifically, Nightwood Theatre is an inspiring feminist theatre which offers a list of exciting opportunities for youth who are admitted into the Young Innovators Program.
4. The Intergenerational LGBT Artist Residency, Toronto Island
An incredible opportunity for queer visual artists of any age and experience in Canada. This residency is two weeks long and offers mentorships, free accommodations, a studio space, and opportunities to travel for participants. Criteria and applications can be made on the website.
