Safe Space Resources

Updated: Aug 6, 2020

1. Fair Play, Minnesota

An organization focused on building safe and inclusive spaces for non-binary, femme, trans folks and women improvisers. A great resource for discussions about traditional "yes, and" understandings of improv, to systems that are safer for all performers. This resource also has posters under the document section of their site for intimacy levels and boundaries.

2. Intimacy Directors & Coordinators, U.S.A.

IDC offers workshops, training, and trained professionals for hire to create safe spaces for theatre and film productions. While much of their work focuses on environments (ex. film sets) where intimacy is performed, IDC provides excellent educational resources, such as free webinars, to educate folks on best safe space practices. This organization is an excellent resource for teachers directing a production and for learning about creating authentic safe spaces in the classroom environment.

3. Theatre Folk

An article entitled "Safety First: Creating a Safe Rehearsal Space" from dramatic arts resource Theatre Folk. A good introductory article for educators to familiarize themselves with creating safe spaces in the drama classroom.
